I've been super excited to blog about my experience in my Copic Certification Class a couple Fridays ago, but didn't want to post it until I had something cute to share with what I learned. So this morning before work I hurried and threw together this quick card and used the hot cocoa mug I'd been coloring on for the past couple days. Not counting my coloring...the card was assembled in about 10 minutes tops.
Supplies Used: Cricut Dot Embossing Folder; Echo Park Paper; Mug Snag'em Stamp from Imaginisce |
Regretfully I only own the Copic markers we received in class and a few I've purchased since then. So I fudged the shading a bit. And you can't tell I used those yummy glitter pens Copic makes (want them in EVERY COLOR...hint, hint)
Now about the class. I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Marianne Walker from Copic through a friend of mine and when I contacted her to come teach a group of my friends from the industry. Although she lives in Oregon she was more then happy to fly down for this class.
Thankfully Shannon from Provo Craft was more than willing to provide us a great classroom area and lunch for the day...wahoo!
Marianne teaching (sorry mid-sentence photo...bad right?) |
Now one thing that I flipped over was how awesome of an artist Marianne is and I loved her portfolios. Of course I had to take photos of her manga drawings for my 15 year old benefit. In fact, she told me that over 95% of professional Manga artists in Japan use Copic markers. Not sure how I feel about the idea of having to share with my son (the jury is still out on this one).
(awesome aren't they?)
Here's the awesome JanaB from Provo Craft...she's always so fun and the adorable Tamara Jensen. I have the great pleasure of working with her at Imaginisce on projects from time to time...love her style!
And how fun is it that Heidi Swapp could come play with us for the day. She was telling me how guilty she felt for spending a whole day learning how to color (like she needed help)...but that she was so grateful to learn all that we did from this class. She was darling as ever and she really is quite the artist!
I didn't get pictures of everyone there (sorry girls).Marianne teaching the girls from American Crafts |
Well....as you can see the color did not come out, it SPREAD. This photo was taken 5 days later. We still giggle about it and Kristine assured me that her hair dresser was able to fix her cute blonde hair again!
Thanks to everyone that made my day such a fun one! Thanks Provo Craft friends and Marianne too!
Definitely my Newest Obsession and all I have to say now about Copic markers is..... I WANT THEM ALL!!

LOL, so funny about Kristine's hair!!! Poor thing!
Looks like a fun day of learning. Glad to know that I can't use the copic markers in my hair.
Looks like a fabulous time! Now to find where we stashed that treasure chest full of cash --- so we all can have one in every color!
I just started learning how to colour with copics and would love them all as well.
Those look amazing! I am definitely putting them on my list. I love Heidi! My sister (a scrapping nobody) loves to tease about the old days when she outdid her all of the time. :D She is amazing--love everything in her line!
Is there a special technique to using the Copics? I love how you can shade with them--they look kind of like pastels.
Nice job!! Your card is so cute!! Copics are so fun...just wait until you have them ALL! hahaha. Have a great weekend Lori.
Don't you love them? I am still trying to find a class close to me to go to. I just love mine. And great card by the way.
Your one lucky lady Lori! I have always wanted to try Copics but they are so darn pricey . . . maybe you can hook us up ;o) LOL One of these days I am going to get around to buying some!
Ok, now that looks like a fun class! How could you not be inspired with so many talented, fun ladies around, hun? Can't wait to see more of your cute Copic projects. :)
I love copics! I, however, can never justify them for myself, too many hobbies. But it was sure fun to play with them! I love your card on the top. Is that the Echo Park chocolate snowflake paper? I love all of EP stuff.
This class looks like it was a blast. I love Copic Markers! I had a small one on one class with one of their reps at an event in Boston when our booth was next to his. They were amazing. Just wish I could afford them.
They sure are great markers by far...
This looks like so much fun!! I have really been wanting to learn how to use Copics... I'm just afraid my husband might leave me if I start investing in a new scrapbooking product!! lol!! I have a feeling that once I start, I am going to want the entire set!
barb :)
I like your card. That embossing folder, big polka dots, is perfect for the small image and patterned paper that you chose. Great job.
